As part of our kickoff, we want to highlight a particularly special horse: Major Spin.
Spin found himself in a bit of a pickle at the track. He was a good runner, but at some point in his career he likely experienced a slab fracture in his knee, which then chipped and landed him with pretty significant arthritis. Despite this, he was still running. When we first met Spin on the backside of the track, he was three-legged lame – not even sound enough to publish a walk video. X-rays showed that he was not a surgical candidate, and so we took him in, figuring some time off and an easy lifestyle might give him a chance.
Nine months later, Spin is now largely sound at the walk, trot, and canter. He’s also ready to begin venturing into his new sporthorse life. So what better to celebrate his progress and show off the potential of even the seemingly low hope cases than to enter him in the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover and point him towards a dressage and possibly fox hunting career?
Want to be a part of Spin’s (and other horses like him) success? We’d love to have you along for the ride! With many sponsorship options available, including one time and monthly donations, those who become a part of Stall 13 by supporting the organization can expect to get exclusive monthly updates and pictures of Stall 13 horses! These updates will include shows and clinics our Stall 13 horses take part in, so if you’re in the area, you can come support in person! Every little bit helps when it comes to getting all these horses on their right path!
